Markets

Markets are where a place reveals itself.

Long before algorithms, markets connected us to the people behind our food, clothing, craft, and culture. They remain one of the easiest ways to experience a city through the eyes of its locals.

Local's Notes

ARRIVE LATE

Because if you go the first day in the morning, it will be packed. Later in the day you’ll be go at your own pace, less crowds, and talk to the people more. I also got free entry on the first day by going late and the second day through a vendor ticket shhhhhh!!

GO BOTH DAYS

If you go both days, you’ll be satisfied on day one that you explored and chatted, and if you go back on day two, you can bring a camera and really buy something that caught your eye if you’re still thinking about it.

TALK TO THE MAKERS

They are tired!!! It’s a long day for them, but they also appreciate the appreciation.

SHOP SLOWLY

Get business cards, follow up, connect with makers after the show, ask where they usually sell their inventory, so that not everything feels rushed but you can build a relationship with them and their collections overtime and become a longer-term customer, rather than an in the moment buy everything or buy nothing outlook.

Brew cacao, a cup of coffee, or matcha and say to yourself “Tell me where to go, who to talk to, what to say.” Make sure to drink water, and stay hydrated!
